I’m interested in lawn bowling. How do I get started?
  • Port Credit offers an Open House for new bowlers. At the Open House you can tour our grounds and clubhouse and chat with club members.
  • Sign up at the Open House for our FREE learn to bowl sessions and try bowling before you join. 

 

What equipment do I need?
  • A set of lawn bowls.
  • The first year of membership you can use club bowls for FREE. That way you can learn which size bowl feels the best
  • Flat-soled shoes are required on our greens.

 

Do I need to wear white clothing?
  • Traditionally, lawn bowlers always wore white for tournament play; however, today’s bowlers can be seen in a variety of colours including white.
  • Again, flat soled shoes are a must.
  • During our socials we may suggest clothing colours as part of the fun (e.g. Canada Day – red and white)

 

What times of day do you play?
  • Members enjoy playing during the daytime and in the evening.
  • Morning bowling usually starts at 10:00 am.
  • Evening bowling begins at 7:00 pm.
  • A game is approximately 2 hours.

 

Does the club have social activities for members?
  • Members enjoy many social activities during the season. We have social tournament days that often include 2 games with a catered lunch or BBQ.
  • There are social exchanges with other clubs as well.

 

Does the club offer competitive play?
  • Absolutely. Port Credit runs a league for pairs and for triples.
  • There are inter-club competitions.
  • As a club member you are also a member of the Ontario Lawn Bowling Association (OLBA) and eligible to compete in District, Provincial and National tournaments.

 

What's in it for you and why should you care?
  • Exercise. An outdoor game that takes about 90 minutes to complete. You can play mornings, evenings and weekends.
  • Low cost. Pay one annual fee and we supply the equipment. There are competitions that cost more money but that is at your discretion.
  • Making new friends. Make a good shot or have an unlucky break and you will likely make a new friend.
  • Easy to learn. Plenty of raining opportunities and it is all free- Simple rules. Its all explained during the training.
  • Competition. Available to those who want it.
