About Us

It all began in 1912 with 5 people who set in motion the formation of a lawn bowling club in Port Credit.  These people became the Provisional Directors of what became the Port Credit Club Ltd.

Property located on the southwest corner of Park Street and Hurontario Street was chosen and purchased at a cost of $3,400 to accommodate tennis courts and a green.

By October 1913 the green and courts were ready for play.  A portion of a house that was located on the property was used for the Club House.  On May 2nd, 1914 members and dignitaries with the raising of a new flag celebrated the official opening of the Club!

In 1920, the house was sold and a new clubhouse was built at the cost of $391.73.  Annual fees for members increased from $10 a year to $15.  The cost to enter a triples tournament was $3.50 per team and $4.00 for a team of four.

In 1934 a Ladies Club was formed with 17 interested ladies and mixed tournaments began; however, it wasn’t until 1976 that the Men’s Section and the Ladies’ Section became one group.  Over the years the Club continued to operate in the existing facility with relatively minor changes to the building, greens and format of play.

Due to a lack of parking, a degenerating clubhouse, increasing taxes and operating costs, it was agreed at the Annual General Meeting on May 11, 1989 to make a proposal to the City of Mississauga to deed them the property.  In return the City would construct a new clubhouse and green at our present location.

On July 23, 1994 we held our official opening on our present site with the ribbon cutting performed by Mayor Hazel McCallion and other dignitaries.  Since then our membership continued to grow and in 2002 we reached 151 active members and maintained this number until the Covid years.  The club was completely closed down in 2020, opened with restrictions in 2021 and started to offer a more complete list of bowling activities in 2022.  Clubs across Ontario worked hard to bring back their members after the worst of Covid.  Weekly activities and tournaments saw fewer bowlers than in previous years.  In 2022 our membership totaled 110.

Our Club has had the honour of hosting many Provincial and National Championship Tournaments with the most recent being the Junior Nationals held in August of 2022.  As we enter each new year the Board of Directors will continue as always to offer our members, fun, comradery and competition and look forward to many more social and competitive events in the years to come.
